Artisan Profile - BigStuffed

You can't help but fall for Dana Muskat's beautiful albino sea creatures - large, over-sized whales and octopuses with long tentacles that are perfect for cuddling. BigStuffed was launched just over a year ago after Dana created  a huge 'Octi' for her newborn niece and was inundated with requests to craft more.

"BigStuffed was conceived sort of by chance, following the birth of my baby niece. I made her a 'welcome to the world' gift - a white octopus, one meter long from head to tentacle. A short while later I made another gift for my good friend’s new baby boy and after receiving so many positive reviews, BigStuffed was born.

"I was looking for a beautiful and noble animal with maternal characteristics that will be a guardian angel, that's where I found the Octopus. Following my attraction to pastel colors, the albino story came naturally. Abandoned at birth by their families in the depths of the ocean because of their difference, now they are looking for a new family to adopt them.. their new owners. Each has a unique feel and look to it except for the trademark droopy eyes which they all share, paying homage to their sad adventures. The next animal I wish to make is a Manatee, a sea cow. I love its look a lot, it's so cute and its shape will be perfect as a pillow."

Israel-born Dana studied fashion design and moved to Paris to complete an apprenticeship at Giambattista Valli and Lanvin. She worked at Rodier but became disenchanted with the fashion industry and started to work on outside projects. BigStuffed has since become a full-time career for Dana who takes great pleasure from the reaction to her art.

"My favorite part is getting pictures and feedbacks from the new owners. I receive pictures of babies and kids that hug their new best friend, feed it and sleep with it. I've also seen beautiful interiors with the BigStuffts lying around the house."

"BigStuffed will soon be in stores and I can't wait to start new collections, find a bigger space to work and to make collaborations with talented people."
