The Just So Festival

Last week we interviewed Wild Rumpus' co-director Sarah Bird about the positive effects of immersive theatre on children and families. It was an inspiring conversation that will appear in Volume 2 of Wildling Magazine this Autumn. Here's one of our favourite quotes:

"With traditional theatre, you go in and sit down and you're aware that a play is going to be presented to you. With immersive theatre, you feel like your being there impacts how things around you will change. That empowerment when given to children is so impactful; for them to think 'I'm making this happen, I can change things around me.'

Sarah and Wild Rumpus are also the directors of The Just So Festival; an annual, weekend-long camping festival for children and their families. "It provides an imaginative outdoor adventure, showcasing the best art, music, literature, comedy and theatre for families all embedded and entwined in a wondrous landscape of woodland clearings, rolling parkland, arboreal amphitheatres and lakeside spots in the Rode Hall Estate, Cheshire."

Amongst the endless list of insuring activities are toddler-jousting, clay baby baths, pillow fighting, a fairy ball, pirate training, slapstick workshops and so much more. Sarah says: "We immerse families into a world of imagination, letting their creativity run wild. We believe in the power of a wonderful moment to change the way that a family engages in the arts together. If we don't give you goosebumps we are not doing it right."
